Before the likes of Agyness Deyn and Angela Lindvall, there was a small crop of models that dominated the fashion world. These ladies consisted of Christie Brinkley, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Heidi Klum, Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and of course Tyra Banks.
And boy were they everywhere! Posters, commercials, magazine covers as well as on the runways. They weren’t just models, they were supermodels. They were part of the elite fashion world who landed multimillion dollar contracts, endorsements and campaigns which earned them worldwide recognition.
But these days, it seems like actresses and pop stars have taken over. Designers and labels seem to prefer using celebrities to ‘model’ for their shows and campaigns. Magazine covers have been bombarded with A-list actresses such as Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett. Have supermodels lost their flair?
Not all of them; these nine supermodels we mentioned still remain household names across the world. Most of them are still walking the runways for top designers while the rest are busy producing reality television shows and workout videos. But are they all still ridiculously stick-thin and gorgeous when they first started out?
Strut down memory lane to see how they used to look since they first entered the fashion world and if they still have the supermodel touch.
