Tease me, lift me, spray me

Ladies, it's time to chuck your hair iron away and bring out the paddle brush. Voluminous hair is all the rage right now with celebrities such as Anna Hathaway, Drew Barrymore and Beyonce spotting it. But don’t worry; we’re not suggesting you to walk around with a beehive on your head ala Amy Winehouse.

The best part about this style is that it works on short or long hair. An important thing to remember when wearing this style is to practice simplicity. Keep your make-up light and wear very minimum accessories. Unless, of course, you are going for a full out glam rock look. Although big hair is very much a red carpet look, you can also work it into a more casual do. It’s all in the texture and lift.

The best way to achieve this style is to invest in some good styling products. You will also need a good paddle brush for backcombing purposes. Using hair rollers or curling tongs is also good to create volumes in limp hair. The right haircut always helps as well. Bobs and layered styles are perfect to give thin or fine hair more instant movement and fullness.

To achieve this look, follow the easy steps below and you’ll be looking like a star in no time.

1) Wash and condition your hair with a volumising shampoo and conditioner, followed by hair serum to protect your locks before styling.

2) Spread a small amount of wax onto palms and fingers. Apply wax to the roots where you want to create volume. Push hair upwards while blending in the wax. This will automatically give your roots a lift. Flip your head over and start blow drying your hair.

3) Separate your hair into three sections. Wrap thick sections of parted hair around curling tongs. The curling tongs is not to curl your hair but to give it more volume. Do this from the middle to the end to give it a natural look.

4) Once you’ve repeated this procedure for all sections, spritz the volumising spray and use a brush to loosen curls and scrunch your hair to give it some texture.

5) Next, use a texturising spray to spray your entire do. Hold spray can at least 15cm from the ends of hair. Don’t use more than four sprays as that will make your hair look wet and greasy. Remember to scrunch your hair to make your hair appear more tousled and natural.

6) If you want more volume then use a paddle brush and back comb small sections of your hair.

7) Finally, finish off with some hairspray to hold the style in place. Lightly cover your entire hair with this spray. Lift up the layers of your hair to get the spray on your roots as well and you're good to go.
